How to be a successful online student: Plan – carve out time to study every day, this is real university coursework. Don’t procrastinate – anticipate projects, tests and assignments. Know your due dates – write them down. Stay focused – it’s tempting to surf the web but stay the course. Visit your online classroom daily – you’ll feel more connected to it. Talk to your instructor – if you have a personal or an academic issue, reach out for assistance. Utilize your time – waiting rooms, commutes by train, any downtime is a good time to study. Work in a quiet place – television, children, friends, etc., are all distractions. Prioritize your schoolwork – keep the goal of graduation always in mind. Graduate with your Kean degree. Technical Requirements Blackboard is the online tool that Kean Online uses to allow faculty to add resources for students to access online. Powerpoint, Captivate, video, audio, animation, and other applications are created outside of Blackboard and added into Blackboard courses for students to enhance teaching and learning efforts. At the minimum, you will need a computer with an Internet connection. You will need an operating system: Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac OSX 10.2 and above. Your computer should have enough RAM: 256 MB, Processor: 2.0 GHz, Free Space on HDD: 500 MB. (Almost any modern computer can accommodate this requirement.) For your Internet Connection broadband is preferred. Supporting browsers include Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Mozilla Firefox 2.0, Safari 1.0, and Java: JRE 1.5.0 up to JRE1.6.
