The twelve credit Certificate in Supervision offered through Kean Online is designed to prepare candidates for certification as a supervisor. The eighteen to thirty credit Certificate in Educational Administration offered through Kean Online is designed to prepare candidates for certification as a principal. Students who complete the program will be eligible to receive the respective Certificates of Eligibility (CE).

Full certification for supervisors and principals is granted by the State after successful completion of a mentoring program and the State-approved examination(s). Please see the NJ Department of Education for specific requirements to become state certified. This program is in compliance with the requirements of the New Jersey State Department of Education code. Students who complete the program are educational leaders who have the knowledge and ability to promote the success of all students by:

  • Facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a school or district vision oflearning supported by the school community.
  • Managing the organization, operations, and resources in a way that promotes a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
  • Collaborating with families and other community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.
  • Acting fairly with integrity, and in an ethical manner.
  • Understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.

The program features well integrated and comprehensive curriculum, small classes, dedicated faculty mentors/advisors who are scholars, researchers and practitioners. 

Application Requirements

  • Resume demonstrating three years of teaching experience
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A copy of a NJ Teaching Certificate
  • Personal statement
  • A Master’s degree

Students must have official transcripts sent directly to Kean University from every institution previously attended.
